2016 Reading, Literacy & Learning Virtual Conference

S6 - The Parent’s Path to Action

Oct 29, 2016 9:15am ‐ Oct 29, 2016 10:15am

Description

Parenting a child with dyslexia can feel lonely and oftentimes confusing and overwhelming. You may be disillusioned with educational professionals or find yourself working through feelings of grief or frustration. It’s important to map out a path from awareness to advocacy, which includes resources and information on your child’s rights, remediation, and accommodations; and strategies to forge agreements with teachers and administrators. Becoming a persuasive and courageous advocate takes focus but you may ultimately find yourself in a position to speak out to a broader audience about systemic change!
