This analysis is drawn from a longitudinal observational Australian study; the Early Language in Victoria Study. The central aim of this analysis was to quantify word decoding and word spelling abilities from a community sample of seven-year old children and determine variables, when the children were aged four and aged five, that when combined, best predict word decoding and word spelling ability at age seven. We considered both child-related factors as well as a range of environmental variables when developing our multivariate predictive models. This presentation will discuss our findings.
