Description
Children with learning challenges are prone to developing a belief that their success is due to external forces (e.g., luck) rather than by their own efforts. This can lead to the development of learned helplessness, a condition in which the child displays a passive resignation to events and stops putting forth effort, thereby appearing unmotivated. This talk will describe learned helplessness, connect it to children with Learning Disabilities (LDs), introduce the notion of a Growth Mindset, and offer strategies to address the emotional challenges associated with LDs.
