SA22 - The Every Student Succeeds Act: Addressing the Reading Inequality Among African Americans

Nov 9, 2019 2:15pm ‐ Nov 9, 2019 3:45pm

Standard: $20.00

Description

Reading failure affects students across all socioeconomic backgrounds, yet, when examining the academic disparities, underserved American minority students (i.e., African American, Hispanic, Native Hawaiian, and American Indian/Alaska Native) endure higher rates of educational difficulties. Their academic struggles in reading are often due to not obtaining the necessary prerequisite skills needed to matriculate through the Pre-K to 12 academic system, which is evident from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) Data.
