Description
Children are not literate if they cannot understand text. Beyond mastering code-breaking skills, beginning readers must develop comprehension skills while learning to decode. Background knowledge, understanding text cohesion, and inferential thinking are critical abilities to comprehend text. This session will focus on key questions teachers can use to analyze text to identify comprehension demands in text. Participants will analyze text and identify the instructional emphasis to support the development of emerging readers’ text comprehension.
