F35 - Understanding the Science of Reading and How It Relates to IDA’s Structured Literacy Approach

Nov 8, 2019 4:00pm ‐ Nov 8, 2019 5:00pm

Standard: $20.00

Description

The “Science of Reading” is a hot term. What does it really mean? How does it relate to IDA’s Structured Literacy approach? Dr. Hall will discuss what is known about the reading brain from functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans. Educators have used three models to portray reading development: the Simple View of Reading , the Four-Part Processing Model, and Scarborough’s Reading Rope. We’ll compare these three models to what science says about the reading brain. Finally, the presenter will connect reading science to IDA’s Structured Literacy approach.

Susan Hall has no relevant financial or nonfinancial relationships to disclose.
