2019 Reading, Literacy & Learning Virtual Conference

F12 - Building Mathematical Understanding Through Vocabulary Study

Nov 8, 2019 11:15am ‐ Nov 8, 2019 12:15pm

Standard: $20.00

Description

Students with dyslexia are often overwhelmed by the vocabulary of math which impacts their ability to remember mathematical conventions and formulas. This session will demonstrate the links between mathematical vocabulary and the concepts those terms represent. By unlocking vocabulary, we create a bridge between complex math terminology and language that students already understand. Come join us to increase your confidence with math terminology and learn powerful ways to bring structured literacy into the math classroom.

Lisa Klipfel and Sue Hegland have no relevant financial or nonfinancial relationships to disclose.
